The ousted chief of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians is seeking back pay from the tribe's current leader, The Tahlequah Daily Press reports. George Wickliffe was impeached on May 24 and is seeking $1,432.58 for 24 days of work that month, the paper reports. But rather than go after the tribe itself, or seek redress at the tribal level, he's filed a case against new Chief Joe Bunch in small claims court in Cherokee County Wickliffe is challenging his removal in tribal court so it's not clear why he went to Cherokee County to seek back pay. The appeal is set to be heard July 25, The Daily Press reported. Wickliffe was impeached after being accused of misappropriating tribal funds, violating the constitution and approving payments without approval but he maintains he did nothing wrong. Get the Story:
