Oglala Sioux Tribe prepares to open long-awaited nursing home

The Oglala Sioux Tribe has completed construction on a $16.5 million nursing home.

The Oglala Sioux Lakota Nursing Home is located on tribal land near Whiteclay, Nebraska. The 51,000 square-foot facility offers 60 resident rooms, a theater that functions as a tornado shelter, a physical therapy center, family rooms and a ceremonial room, The Sheridan County Journal Star reported.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota extended a $13.5 million loan for the project. The Oglala Sioux Tribe contributed another $3 million.
