The St. Croix Chippewa Tribe of Wisconsin broke ground on a $30 million economic development project on Thursday.

The tribe is building an entirely new Fourwinds Market in Siren. The 23,000 square-foot grocery story will be accompanied by a 3,100 square-foot fast food restaurant, a 3,000 square-foot bottle shop, a 1,500 square-foot convenience store, an 11-bay gas station and rest top, a car wash and a 52-unit storage facility, according to news reports.

“What we’re looking at is investing in our community and creating jobs. Long term jobs, well paying jobs. We’re looking at $30 million dollars, a huge, huge investment.” Chairman Lewis Taylor said at the groundbreaking, The Spooner Advocate reported.

In addition to the retail development, the tribe is building an entirely new St. Croix Casino Hertel Express in Webster. Work is slated to begin in July on that project.
