A U.S. Marine veteran who is Native American and African American underwent another surgery on Monday after suffering serious injuries in a race-related incident in Wyoming. Clayton Denny, whose Native heritage comes from the Chippewa Cree Tribe, had surgery to address an infection under his right eye, The Billings Gazette reported. He previously said he underwent surgery due to injuries affecting his left eye. The incident occurred in Sheridan, Wyoming, in the early morning hours of May 8. Denny confirmed that he had a confrontation with two men over race-related remarks prior to the incident. "A push, white flash, bits and pieces of pain" is how Denny described the attack to the Gazette. He suffered a concussion, a broken facial bone and multiple head wounds. Dylan Dygert, 21, and Jacob Olson, 26, have been charged with with aggravated assault but Wyoming does not have a hate crimes statute so they aren't facing charges for any race-related remarks. It's possible that they might face federal hate crime charges. Denny is recovering in Billings, Montana, where previously lived and where he now plans to stay. He told the Gazette that he might have to undergo additional surgery if his vision does not improve. Get the Story:
