The results aren't official but it looks like Isleta Pueblo in New Mexico will be changing its blood quantum standard. Tribal members voted 775 to 554 to lower the standard from 1/2 to 1/4 Isleta blood, Indian Country Today reported. The Bureau of Indian Affairs oversaw the Secretarial election in April. “I have three children who are adults, and the only member was myself, and I wanted them to be recognized as Native American," tribal member Ted Jojola, a supporter of the initiative, told ICT. The results still need to be certified and some tribal members have submitted challenges, ICT reported. If the change is adopted, the rolls are expected to grow by 1,400 from the current 3,500, according to ICT. Get the Story:
