A young member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota was presented with an eagle feather for participating in the recent Future Generations Ride.

As the staff carrier, Lorrell Goings, 20, led a group of tribal members through the annual ride that honors the victims of the 1890 Wounded Knee massacre. He said he learned some important lessons during the 160-mile journey that was accompanied by harsh weather and tough conditions.

“Stay strong. Stay humble," Goings told South Dakota Public Broadcasting's Jim Kent.

Charley New Holy, a relative, said the ceremony marks a milestone in Goings becoming an adult.
