The Comanche Nation of Oklahoma is taking aim at crime in Indian Country with the first tribally-based Crime Stoppers program. The tribe took action after noticing that crimes on Indian land were falling through the cracks. Some incidents were being reported to local and state authorities but they generally lack jurisdiction in Indian Country. "This is the first," Charles Wells, the chairman of the Comanche Nation Crime Stoppers Board, told KSWO. "This is what we hope will begin to blossom all over Indian country, so this is one of the things that we are looking forward to this is a starting point for crime on Indian lands." Calls to the Crime Stoppers line (580-492-1TIP) remain anonymous. The program covers Comanche lands and will accept calls from other Indian lands in a nine-county area. Get the Story:
