The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians is seeking to reacquire lands within the boundaries of its reservation in Minnesota. The tribe has already identified about 1,400 acres it wants to buy. Plans call for the land to be set aside for conservation, rice harvesting, hunting and fishing activities. "It's a win for everybody. We get the money. They get to re-establish their reservation. And the land remains open for the public to hunt and fish on," Frank Jewell, a commissioner for St. Louis County, told The Duluth News Tribune. The tribe has received $2.8 million in state conservation funds to reacquire lands within the reservation. Get the Story:
