The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma donated $4 million to Northeastern State University to renovate the oldest building on campus. The Seminary Hall was the home of the Cherokee Female Seminary, a tribal boarding school. It opened in 1889 and is considered to be the centerpiece of the NSU campus. “Seminary Hall is a powerful unifier of the university, the city of Tahlequah and the Cherokee Nation,” Chief Bill John Baker said in a press release. “It reminds all of us every single day that the partnership between the tribe, the school and the community is anchored in advancing quality education and making it accessible to our citizens."
