The Center for Native American Youth has a new executive director. Erik Stegman is Assiniboine from the Carry the Kettle First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. He's worked for the National Congress of the American Indians, the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, the Department of Education and, most recently, the Center for American Progress. "CNAY is a powerful and transformative platform for Native youth. I am honored to work with a community of champions who are serving as models of change for tribal communities across the country," Stegman said in a press release. "I am eager to get started and focus on our critical mission." Stegman follows in the trail of Erin Bailey, who was the first director of the groundbreaking non-profit that has helped raise the profile American Indian and Alaska Native youth. She will now serve on the organization's board and executive committee. "I speak for the board, staff, our partners around the country, and the youth we serve in extending an abundance of gratitude to Erin Bailey and her extraordinary leadership across the past five years," said retired Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), who founded the center. CNAY is based at the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C.
