The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho has launched two language apps for mobile devices. The Nez Perce Language Program worked with a developer to create the apps. Staffers used existing recordings of Nimipuutimt and created categories like people, animals and numbers for users to learn the language. More than 1,000 words are available. “Everybody’s got a phone on them nowadays,” Thomas “Tatlo” Gregory, the tribe's language coordinator, told The Spokesman-Review. “Now they have a tool they can use on their own when they just want to find out a quick word.” The app can be found on the Apple iTunes Store or on Google Play.
