The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of Michigan will hold a public meeting tomorrow to discuss a proposed trail on the reservation. The 12-mile trail links two communities on Keweenaw Bay, an arm of Lake Superior. It would provide walking, hiking, biking and other recreational opportunities on the reservation. “This project unites our communities by promoting health, physical and spiritual well-being for local residents and visitors,” KBIC President Warren C. Swartz, Jr. said in a press release. “We are excited about the symbolism and possibilities in uniting local residents in support of this project which links the communities and offers an inspiring path for visitors to explore the geography, history and culture of our area.” The tribe conducted a feasibility study with a $160,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Construction could cost anywhere between $8.5 to $12 million. The results of the study will be presented tomorrow at the Ojibwa Casino in Baraga. Get the Story:
