I had a particularly difficult time writing this week’s article. I had to “sit a spell” to clear my mind in order to maintain decency and intellect in my article.

I found that my current resentment toward white people in general comes from the fact that I had allowed myself to actually believe that racism had been put to rest here in South Dakota.

The recent court dismissal of the alcohol-related incident during a hockey game at the Rapid City Civic Center is mind-boggling. An intoxicated white man had spilled beer on some Lakota children and then expressed his true feeling by taunting the elementary students and their chaperones with a racially charged epitaph, “go back to the reservation.” I believe he challenged a chaperone to a fight also.
