Members of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians in California are getting ready for their tribe's annual powwow.

The 19th annual Payomkawichum Soboba Inter-Tribal Pow Wow takes place from September 18 through September 20. Thousands of dancers, drummers and spectators are expected for a weekend of traditional games, bird singing and dances.

"We are a proud people with a rich history, who are inspired by our ancestors to continue our traditions and remember our past," Chuck Castello, an elder who has been involved in nearly every powwow for the last 19 years, said in a press release. "We are excited to share these traditions with our community so that they may better understand our people, our customs, and our legacy. It is a wonderful weekend for every one of every age to come and enjoy themselves."

The powwow is being held at the Soboba Event Center, next to the Soboba Casino. Admission is free.
