Internet reach is amazing. Around Memorial Day this year, I penned a feature story about a young Crow cowgirl, Michelle Walking Bear, titled “Indian rodeo is family tradition” shared by Native Sun News through various internet sources such as their Facebook page and Indianz.com.

Gladly, that brought deserved recognition to Michelle and family, examples of our many fine Indian rodeo athletes, underscoring how the sport is encouraged and passed down from generation – to- generation. That article went across the country, attracting the attention of many people besides Indians.

As a result, in early August, an interesting email message came to A Cheyenne Voice, from Nancy Stark, owner of mind2medias, a media writer and producer from Maryland. She has been engaged by the Plains Museum of the American Indian (Buffalo Bill Center of the West) located in Cody, Wyoming to develop an online project entitled “Heart, Strength and Speed: It includes five interactive learning experiences which will explore different aspects of how horses helped shape the American West. The unit slated for the Plains American Indian Museum will examine the unique relationship that American Indians have with horses and how this relationship has evolved over time, focusing on contemporary Indian rodeo.
