The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is working with federal officials in North Dakota and South Dakota to reduce the rate of recidivism on the reservation. Chairman Dave Archambault called the Multijurisdictional Re-entry Services Team the first of its kind in Indian Country. The group will provide services to convicts and former inmates to help them re-enter society and prevent them from committing new crimes. “It’s been a long time coming, for a lot of agencies to recognize that there’s a problem and see what we can do," Archambault told the Associated Press. "If it works, it can be something that other tribes can explore.” The tribe is working with the U.S. Attorney's Office in North Dakota and South Dakota on the program. Get the Story:
