The leader of the Chickasaw Nation in Oklahoma is seeking an eighth term in office.

Gov. Bill Anoatubby has led the tribe since 1987. During that time, the tribe's economy has grown dramatically -- from just 250 employees to nearly 13,000 today -- enabling the expansion of health, education, housing and other programs.

"Our mission, to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people, will continue to serve as our guidepost as we travel together toward an even brighter future," Anoatubby said as he announced his re-election bid, The Ada News reported.

Anoatubby typically runs unopposed. The governor's term runs for four years.
