Sealaska, an Alaska Native regional corporation, is holding an election for five seats on its board of directors.

Five incumbents are running for re-election. They have been endorsed by the current board.

Five independent candidates are also running. They are among a contingent of shareholders who have questioned the corporation's governance and performance -- there have been five straight years of losses.

Sealaska has cut jobs and streamline operations in hopes of addressing its financial standing. “That’s financial progress. That’s strong operational platforms," CEO Anthony Mallott, who came on board in May 2014, told KRBD.

Voting is taking place online. Results will be announced at Sealaska’s annual meeting on June 27.
