Labatt Food Service of Texas is on a mission to bring Native American beef to the masses.

The Native American Beef program markets beef from ranchers on the Navajo Nation and the Jicarilla Apache Nation. The products are mainly being sold at tribal casinos and retail outlets but the company hopes to expand nationwide.

“I believe in the concept,” Kurt Sandoval, a Jicarilla Apache rancher, told The San Antonio Express-News. “The way I look at it, it’s almost like promoting sovereignty, promoting an animal for consumers, and the consumers can actually be my people.”

Labatt held a Native American Beef Symposium in San Antonio last week to help promote the products.
