The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians in California will be conducting sounds tests for a proposed shooting range, a process that will take several months, a tribal administrator said. The tribe plans to build a 29-lane outdoor range on trust land near a major highway. Administrator Ernie Vargas said the tribe won't move forward without addressing sound, environmental and other concerns. "The tribe is a part of the community," Vargas told Capital Public Radio. "The tribe, through its partnership with El Dorado County, wants to do what's best for the county overall and be a good neighbor, because we live here too." Residents are upset with the plan because they feel it is out of their control since it will be located on trust land. Some are also concerned about the presence of nearby schools, although the tribe's site is nearly a mile away and there is no direct path between the two areas. Get the Story:
