Six people have been found guilty in connection with separate hunting cases on the reservation of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana.

In the first case, five people pleaded no contest or pleaded guilty for killing an elk. All received fines and one was ordered to pay restitution to the tribe.

In the second case, a man pleaded guilty for shooting two deer. He was fined $1,075 and was ordered to pay $1,000 restitution to the tribe.

The tribe helped investigate the cases, which were prosecuted in Lake County Justice Court because the defendants are non-members. Hunting by non-members is expressly prohibited on the reservation.
