The Menominee Nation and Menominee County declared a state of emergency on Monday in response to flooding that's creating dangerous conditions on the Wisconsin reservation.

Some homes and businesses have flooded due to ice jams in the Wolf River. Officials fear the situation could get worse with snow and freezing temperatures on the way.

"The water levels in the Wolf River continue to rise," the tribe and the county said in a press release.

A portion of Hwy. 47/55 that runs through Keshena, the tribal headquarters, has been closed to most traffic.
