Leaders of the Shageluk Tribe of Alaska have taken matters into their own hands following a double homicide.

According to news reports, Chief Roger Hamilton Jr. is detaining a young man who is suspected of killing his parents. Officials have been waiting on the Alaska State Troopers to arrive in the community even though the crime was reported on Tuesday evening.

"The community of Shageluk is extremely outraged by the lack of medical attention and emergency response by the Alaska State Troopers," the tribe and the city of Shageluk said in a press release, The Alaska Dispatch News reported. "After repeated attempts to seek law enforcement assistance to locate and apprehend, as well as provide medical care, Troopers and medical officials have not arrived in Shageluk."

State troopers canceled a medevac flight for the victims after learning they were dead. A spokesperson said medevacs are only meant for live patients.

The troopers were on their way to Shageluk via plane, the spokesperson said.
