The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin swore in a new council on Thursday night.

Women hold six seats -- a majority on the council. They also hold the four top positions -- Cristina Danforth as chair, Melinda Danforth as vice chair, Trish King as treasurer and Lisa Summers as secretary.

"History was made last night as the Oneida Nation swears into office 6 women to the seats of Chairwoman, Vice-Chairwoman, Treasurer, Secretary, and two Councilwomen. Congratulations to all," the tribe said on Facebook.
