The Tule River Tribe of California is hoping Congress will finally pass a bill to authorize a million water reservoir.

The tribe has put several economic development projects on hold due to the lack of a stable water supply on and near the reservation. The situation has been worsening due to the prolonged drought in the state.

“Once the river goes dry, we’re going to have issues,” he said. “It (drought) is impacting us in ways it’s never impacted us before,” Chairman Neil Peyron said at a meeting with the Tulare County Board of Supervisors, The Porterville Recorder reported.

The tribe continues to negotiate a water rights settlement with the federal government.
