The Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians has proposed a bill to eliminate "halfbreed" and "breed" place names in Montana. Nicholas Vrooman, a consultant who works for the tribe, counted 17 such names in the state. One is in the federal system -- Halfbreed Lake National Wildlife Refuge. "Using the terms is a way to really denigrate people; place them on lower rung of society," Vrooman told the Associated Press. Vrooman plans to find a sponsor for the bill in the next legislative session, which begins in January 2015. Get the Story:
