John Learned, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, is leading plains to establish the American Indian Center of the Great Plains.

Learned, 59, is raising $10 million to acquire The Loretto, an event, office and meeting space in Kansas City, Missouri. He hopes for a grand opening later this year.

“Something like this doesn’t exist, and there is a need,” Learned told The Kansas City Star.

The North American Indian Tennis Association and the American Indian Athletic Hall of Fame plan to move into the building if everything goes well. The Hall of Fame held its most recent induction ceremony at the facility.
