It's down to the wire for T.W. Shannon, a member of the Chickasaw Nation who is running for the open U.S. Senate seat in Oklahoma. Polls show a tight race between Shannon and Rep. James Lankford (R). The Republican primary takes place Tuesday and it has attracted national attention and millions of dollars in spending from outside groups. "In Oklahoma, there are a number of good Senate candidates. But T.W. Shannon is a conservative fighter. He has the courage to look Washington insiders in the eye and say, 'I don't work for you,'" Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a new ad for Shannon. If Shannon wins the GOP nomination and the general election in November, he will be the first tribal member in the Senate since Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado), a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe who retired in 2005. He would be the third tribal member in Congress. The other two -- Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma), who is also Chickasaw, and Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma), a member of the Cherokee Nation -- all hail from Oklahoma. Get the Story:
