The Senate Rules Committee will hold a hearing next week on voting in Indian Country and in rural America. Sen. John Walsh (D-Montana), a new member of the Senate, will chair the hearing. It will focus on hurdles facing residents of reservations, who often have to travel long distances to vote. "During his first week as a Senator, Walsh visited Montana’s Indian nations and heard about the challenges of early voting," Walsh's office said in a press release. Witnesses include Rhonda Whiting, the chair of the board of Western Native Voice, a non-profit in Montana that seeks to increase Native participation in the electoral process.
