Stephanie Bryan elected chair of Poarch Band of Creek Indians

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama has a new leader.

Stephanie A. Bryan won election as chair of the tribe on Saturday, June 7. She is the first woman to serve in the position.

"Words cannot express how honored I feel to be the first woman elected as the Tribal Chair for the Poarch Creek Indians," Byran said in a press release. "I'm ecstatic to be embarking upon this new journey on behalf of my people."

Bryan will be sworn in on June 19. She succeeds Buford Rolin, who is retiring after eight years as chair.
