North Dakota commission backs power line opposed by tribes

The North Dakota Public Service Commission approved an electrical transmission line through the Killdeer Mountain Battlefield Historic Site.

U.S. soldiers attacked a peaceful tribal camp at the site in June 1864. Although some tribal ancestors managed to escape, others died and were buried there.

The United Tribes of North Dakota passed a resolution against the power line, which must receive federal approval before it can be built.
