Chemehuevi Tribe ensures students get to school across border

The Chemehuevi Tribe of California has a unique partnership with a public school district across the border in Arizona.

Tribal students take a ferry across Havasu Lake to go to school in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The trip is shorter than a drive to another public school in California.

"This is our fifth year running the program,” Dusti Rose Beacon, the tribe's education director, told The Havasu News.

The elementary school that served the reservation closed in 2009.
