The
Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho is investigating the disposal of a bison carcass on the reservation.
The carcass was found skinned in Stites Canyon on Monday. The tribe wants to know if one of its own was responsible.
"The Nez Perce Tribe is outraged by such conduct and will be conducting a full investigation to determine if this wastage was done by a Nez Perce Tribal member,"
Chairman Silas Whitman said in a press release. "Such conduct is unacceptable and tramples on the beliefs and values of not only the Nez Perce Tribe but tribes everywhere and to an animal we deem sacred."
The tribe's bison hunting season is due to end March 18.
