Vice chairman of Colville Tribes resigns following arrest for rape

Ernest “Sneena” Brooks III, the vice chairman of the Colville Tribes of Washington, resigned after being arrested on a rape charge.

Brooks was arrested on Friday by police from the Coeur d’Alene Tribe of Idaho. He was booked into a county jail there and was released after posting bond.

It wasn't reported where the incident occurred.

Chairman Michael Finley issued the following press release today:
NESPELEM, WA – Today Tribal Councilman Ernest “Sneena” Brooks III resigned from the Colville Business Council. Brooks represented the Omak District and served as Vice-Chairman of the Colville Business Council. He has served on the Colville Business Council since 2011. Brooks cited “personal reasons” for his resignation. The Colville Business Council will be meeting on Friday, February 21, 2014 to determine who will fill the vacancy. The Colville Constitution provides that if a councilman resigns the Business Council shall declare the position vacant and appoint a member from the district affected to fill the unexpired term.
