Standing Rock Sioux Tribe eases propane crisis on reservation

An influx of federal funds and a donation has helped the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe ease a propane crisis on the reservation.

The tribe used $1.7 million grant from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to help 1,100 homes. A $500,000 donation from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota helped another 500 people.

"We've been able to get to everyone who needed propane," Chairman Dave Archambault II told the Associated Press. "I think (the situation) is stabilizing."

The reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
