Standing Rock Sioux Tribe welcomes help for heating needs

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is welcoming a $500,000 donation from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota.

The money will be used to help tribal members buy propane. The cost of the fuel has been rising as temperatures have dropped on the reservation, which straddles the North Dakota and South Dakota border.

"I don't know what we'd do without it," tribal member Marlo Free told KELO.

Nicholas Cadotte, the chairman of the Wakpala District, said freezing temperatures are likely to continue for another month or so. His district received $15,000, thanks to the Shakopees.
