John Warren inaugurated as new chairman of Pokagon Band

For the first time in eight years, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians in Michigan has a new leader.

John Warren was sworn in as chairman of the tribe on Saturday. He won a special election to succeed Matt Wesaw, who had led the tribe since 2008.

Warren has been on the tribal council since 2006. In 2011, he became treasurer and relinquished that post before taking the chairman's job.

As for Wesaw, he's now serving as executive director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.
