Oglala Sioux Tribe considers referendum on legal marijuana
Friday, February 7, 2014
Members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota might get to vote on a referendum to legalize marijuana on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The tribe could legalize marijuana for medicinal or recreational purposes, or both.
"I just brought it up, and it's going to go out as a poll to the people," council member Larry Eagle Bull told KELO-TV.
Marijuana is legal in some form in 18 states and the District of Columbia. But it remains illegal under federal law, which covers Indian Country.
