Senate committee backs Spokane Tribe's compensation bill

The Senate Indian Affairs
Committee approved S.1448, the Spokane Tribe of Indians of the Spokane Reservation Equitable Compensation Act, at a business meeting last week.
The bill compensates the Spokane Tribe of Washington for land lost to the Grand Coulee Dam. It creates a $53 million trust fund for economic development, infrastructure, eduatiional, health, recreational and social welfare programs.
The bill can now be considered by the full Senate.
