IHS screening may have exposed Nevada tribe to disease

The Indian Health Service may have exposed members of the Fort McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of Nevada to infectious diseases during a diabetes screening.

At least 21 members took part in the screening at the NuNu Diabetes Wellness Clinic. Their blood glucose levels were checked but the monitoring pen appears to have been reused.

"It's very scary," Chairman Tildon Smart, who was one of those who participated in the screening, told KRNV.

Tribal members are being tested today for various diseases.
