Little Traverse Bay Bands council rejects marriage law vote
The council of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Michigan voted down a motion to put the tribe's marriage law to a referendum.
The tribe was one of the first in Indian Country to recognize same-sex marriage. The law was passed by a 5-4 vote of the council in March 2013.
Council member Beatrice Law said the issue should be put to the people instead. But none of her fellow colleagues voted in favor of her motion, The Petoskey News-Review reported.
