The 11th annual Memorial March to Honor Lost Children takes place today to honor Native children and families who have been affected by the child welfare system in Nebraska and Iowa.
Marchers will start at the Marina Inn & Conference Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
They will cross the Veterans Memorial Bridge and enter Iowa to make stops by the Sioux City Hall and the Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City.
"The Memorial March to Honor Lost Children has grown from an act of frustration and a show of unity into a true celebration and true remembrance of children and families who have been impacted by the child welfare system," organizer Frank LaMere said in a press release, The Sioux City Journal reported.
Native children are placed in the child welfare system in Nebraska and Iowa at disproportionate rates.
