Vandals damaged a historic Navajo site in New Mexico during a Halloween party, The Farmington Daily-Times reports.
The
Frances Canyon pueblito dates to the early 1700s.
Numerous rooms at the site were damaged by a bonfire during the party and revelers left Halloween-themed garbage everywhere.
The
Bureau of Land Management is investigating. The persons responsible for the damage could face up to two years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
"They treated it as though it was a haunted house," Geoff Haymes, a BLM archaeologist, told the paper.
