President Barack Obama plans to nominate Brad Carson, a member of the Cherokee Nation, as Under Secretary of the U.S. Army. Carson, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Iraq, has been serving as general counsel at the Army Department since 2012. Previously, he was chief executive officer for Cherokee Nation Businesses, his tribe's economic development enterprise. Carson also represented Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional district from 2000 to 2005. The district has the highest percentage of American Indians and Alaska Natives in the U.S. Carson will be subject to confirmation by the Senate. He was among a handful of nominees announced by the White House today. “I am pleased to announce that these experienced and committed individuals have agreed to join this administration, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead," Obama said in a statement.
