Ontario tells Native woman to stop work on home off-reserve

The province of Ontario has ordered a Native woman to stop building a home off the reserve.

Darlene Necan is building a home on her family's traditional hunting land. But she doesn't have a permit so she faces a $10,000 fine.

"Being homeless all the time, that kind of got to me," Necan told CBC News. "It seemed like society pushed me back on our land, and that's why I started building on our trapline."

Necan is from the Saugeen First Nation.
