The housing authority of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana is seeking more than $1.2 million from the
Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The reservation suffered heavy snowfall in the winter of 2011. Combined with heavy rains in the summer of 2011, the storm drains in the town of Browning were backed up, causing flooding and damage to numerous homes, according to a complaint that was filed in federal court.
The BIA, however, says the town bears responsibility for cleaning the drains.
Government attorneys also blame the tribe for stockpiling snow during the storm.
Turtle Talk has posted the complaint in the case,
Blackfeet Housing v. US.
