Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes counting primary votes

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana are still counting votes from a primary election held on Saturday.

More than 1,400 tribal member cast votes, The Missoulian reported. But the outcome of certain races won't be known until more than 400 absentee and contested ballots are counted.

One race will affect Chairman Joe Durglo. He's trailing by just 11 votes in his district to challenger Patty Stevens.

Durglo could be knocked out of the race if former chairman James Steele Jr. gains more votes as additional ballots are counted. Only 8 votes separate Durg;lo and Steele.

The general election will be held December 14.
