A council member for the Blackfeet Nation of Montana pleaded guilty in tribal court. Shannon Augare, who also serves as a state senator, admitted to charges of threatening a public official, DUI and reckless driving. He was given a 37-day suspended sentence and ordered to pay a $1,150 fine. The charges stem from an incident on the reservation in which Augare was stopped a county sheriff who responded to a report of erratic driving. Augare allegedly left the scene after disputing the officer's jurisdiction. Augare faces charges of drunken driving, reckless driving and obstruction of a peace officer in federal court. The trial is due to start November 7. Augare has been suspended from the tribal council by Chairman Willie Sharp Jr., who acknowledged he may not have had authority to do so. Get the Story:
