NMAI in Washington and in New York closed due to shutdown

The National Museum of the American Indian has closed its facilities in Washington, D.C., and New York due to the shutdown of the federal government.

"We will advise you when the museums will reopen as soon as the situation is resolved," NMAI said on Facebook.

The shutdown is the first in 17 years. Congress failed to reach agreement on the federal budget, with Republicans trying to use the process to defund Affordable Care Act, the 2010 law that reauthorized the Indian Health Care Improvement Act and Democrats rejecting the proposal.
