College Board reports slight decline in Native student scores

The scores of American Indian and Alaska Native students who take the SAT have fallen slightly since 2011, the College Board reported today.

More and more Native students are taking the test. But, like most others in the nation, scores have stayed largely stagnant.

"While some might see stagnant scores as no news, we at the College Board consider it a call to action," College Board President David Coleman said in a press release.

For American Indian and Alaska Native students in 2013, the average score was 480 in reading, 486 in math and 461 in writing. They trail White students and Asian students in academic preparation, the College Board said in a new report.
